The Buck Stops Here
President Harry S. Truman’ had a famous motto, “the buck stops here” which had put on a sign that he kept on his Oval Office desk as a reminder.
In his farewell address to the American people given in January 1953, President Truman referred to this concept very specifically in asserting that,
"The President--whoever he is--has to decide. He can't pass the buck to anybody. No one else can do the deciding for him. That's his job."
In his book, The Travelers Gift, Andy Andrews uses this phrase as a simply way to frame the concept that to achieve personal success you must, accept personal responsibility for your past.
You must understand that the beginning of wisdom is to accept the responsibility for your own problems and that by accepting responsibility for your past, You set yourself free to move into a bigger, brighter future of your own choosing.
When you accept that you control your thoughts and your emotions you can begin to change where you are —mentally, physically, spiritually, emotionally, and financial. You can change all of these by changing the way you think.
Simple said, The Buck Stop Here.
In his book, Extreme Ownership: How U.S. Navey SEALs Lead and Win, Jocko Willink says,
“Implementing Extreme Ownership requires checking your ego and operating with a high degree of humility. Admitting mistakes, taking ownership, and developing a plan to overcome challenges are integral to any successful team.”
